New Volvo cars promise to curb drunk driving in Florida

Drivers in Florida will soon have more options to combat drunk driving. Volvo has announced that it plans to install technology in its cars that may help prevent crashes caused by drunk driving. The company plans to put the technology in its cars in the early 2020s.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that about 30 Americans die every day in automobile crashes caused by drunk driving. The new technology is designed to reduce the number of accidents caused by drunk driving by preventing accidents from occurring. This is an advance over technology that simply reduces the severity of the accidents.

The technology monitors drivers for any signs that the driver may be impaired. For instance, if the driver fails to turn the steering wheel for an extended period of time or ignores warning signals the car transmits, the safety system is activated. Additionally, extremely slow reaction times and weaving between lanes may also set off the safety system. Once the system is activated, the car is programmed to take appropriate actions, including slowing the speed of the vehicle and even parking it in a safe place.

Although the new technology is promising, in the meantime, many Americans continue to die in automobile crashes caused by drunk drivers. People who have lost loved ones or have otherwise been impacted by a drunk driver may be able to pursue legal action against the driver. Such people may wish to seek legal advice and representation from a personal injury attorney to secure their rights to compensation.
