Hit And Run on Interstate 10 Near Okaloosa County

I've blogged a lot about hit and run accidents. It is my hope that educating people on the ramifications of causing an accident will cause that individual to stay at the scene and accept the consequences of causing an accident. Thus, it was disappointing to read an article in the Northwest Florida Daily News about a hit and run.

The paper reports that a four vehicle wreck on Interstate 10 Sunday afternoon damaged four vehicles including a tractor trailer. The driver of the Nissan Frontier which set off the chain reaction wreck has not been identified. The Frontier was traveling east in the right lane of I-10 about 2 p.m. (CST) when it changed lanes, pushing a second vehicle into the median. That car, a 2003 Honda Civic, driven by A 21-year-old , crossed the median into the path of a 2005 BMW driven by a female from Gulf Breeze. The Civic struck the front right of the BMW. It then struck the left side of a 2012 tractor trailer driven by a male from Baton Rouge. The impact caused the truck to jack knife and travel onto the north shoulder, where the trailer separated from the truck and overturned multiple times, the release said. The Frontier fled the scene eastbound on I-10. It was described as a newer model white Nissan Frontier pickup, with either an extended cab or a crew cab. It might have damage to the driver's side and possibly be marked with red paint from the collision. The driver of the Civic and the tractor trailer received minor injuries and were taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center, the release said. The tractor trailer sustained $300,000 in damages, while the Civic received $10,000. The BMW had $5,000 in damages.
