Motorcycle Accidents: Fatalities On The Rise

Motorcycle.jpgI don't own a motorcycle but I imagine that those who are motorcycle enthusiasts must be very concerned when riding the roads,  they would want to make sure all drivers of vehicles see their motorcycle so they are not injured in an accident where a vehicle abruptly makes a careless decision and the motorcycle (and those on them) are serious injured, if not killed. Unfortunately, this did not occur earlier this month, near Fort Walton Beach. Various news agencies report that one person was killed after a car drove into the path of an oncoming motorcycle. FHP officials report a 46-year-old female from Fort Walton Beach was stopped at the three-way intersection of Comanche Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. She tried to make a left hand turn onto the boulevard but pulled out in front of a motorcycle driven by a 56-year old man from Baker. The driver of the motorcycle and his passenger, a 54-year-old female, also of Baker were taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. The driver suffered minor injuries, but his passenger died from her injuries.

Failing To Move Over For Emergency Vehicles Caused Over 200 Car Accidents

iStock-513540728 (1).jpgWEAR reports that every year law enforcement officers are hurt or killed by someone failing to move over for a stopped or disabled vehicle. Recently, a Gulf Breeze man was killed on the roadside while helping someone in a crash and now the Florida Highway Patrol is reminding residents about Move Over Laws. The law requires that the oncoming driver vacate the nearest lane of traffic and, if that's not possible, they must slow down at least 20 miles below the speed limit. Motorists can face fines and points on their driver's license if they fail to move over or slow down near an incident, whether that's impacting law enforcement or other service workers like tow truck operators. The law does not apply during the short period of time when a driver is pulled over and waiting for emergency officials or a tow truck.
