PEDESTRIAN INJURIES: BE FIT, BUT BE SAFE

Crosswalk-1000-ffccccccWhite-3333-0.20.3-1.pngI recently surprised my wife with a new Fitbit. She has been asking for one for several months, so I succumbed to the pressure and made the purchase. When I received it in the mail, all I could think about is how our society has begun to place an emphasis on 'personal movement'. I really didn't understand why so many people were crazy about these devices until I began to read about their function. Like so many other products, the device provides self-awareness regarding your 'personal movement' and exercise. It helps track how active you are or how many steps you are taking. Being the personal injury attorney, I began to wonder if accidents involving pedestrians have increased over the past several years. Our society is beginning to make a transition into an era of mass transit, low-cost transportation, walking, biking and any other modes of 'personal movement' that involve minimal fuel/energy. In short, more people are on our streets not protected by the enclosures of cars.

HOW TECHNOLOGY IS MAKING THE RIDE SAFER FOR MOTORCYCLISTS

Helmet-1000-ffccccccWhite-3333-0.20.3-1.pngMotorcycle accidents only account for a small percentage of the total crashes and fatalities in the State of Florida. In 2011, there were approximately 627,000 registered motorcycles in Florida, representing 3.6% of Florida's motoring public. Floridians have become accustomed to seeing motorcyclists, due to Florida's popularity and numerous road rallies. We have been encouraged by the decrease in motorcycle accident since 2008. This is attributed largely by the implementation of Florida's Motorcycle Safety Coalition and the new rider training requirements.

DRIVER-LESS CARS! WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CAR ACCIDENTS?

Robot_Taxi-1000-ffccccccTransparent-3333-0.20.3-1.pngI was reading a short article from USA Today (.com), wherein an Intel representative was discussing how a new Intel division was being opened, called "In-Vehicle Solutions". In-Vehicle Solutions was created to assist with the development of automated cars. It made me stop and think about car accidents and who would be responsible in an accident involving two automated (driver-less) vehicles.
